Making your own hummus is so easy. Serve these with veggies and pita bread for a yummy snack or use as a spread on a sandwich or wrap. Try adding olives or garlic to the classic hummus or try the beet hummus recipe just as shown. Both recipes listed.
Classic Hummus

Ingredients:
1 Can - Chickpeas
⅓ Cup - Tahini
1 - Lemon
¾ TBSP - Salt
½ TBSP - Cumin
2 TBSP - Olive Oil
4-5 TBSP - Cold Water
3 Cloves - Garlic
Preparation:
Drain and rinse chickpeas. Set aside.
In a food processor, mix together tahini, juice of 1 lemon, salt, cumin, olive oil, garlic, and 3 tablespoons of water until smooth.
Once combined, add chickpeas.
Blend until consistency of peanut butter adding a little water at a time if needed.
Serve and enjoy.
Tips:
Don’t add too much water. Make sure to blend completely and only add a little bit until you achieve the consistency you like.
Drizzling olive oil over the top of hummus adds a nice touch and enhances flavor.
Get creative! Add different elements to create your flavors such as Kalamata olives, roasted red pepper, garlic, or even jalapeños and cilantro. You can mince these and place on top or you could add directly into the mix when blending.
Beet Hummus

Ingredients:
3-4 Beets
¼ Cup - Tahini
½ - Lemon
3-4 Cloves - Garlic
Olive Oil
Salt
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 375º.
Place beets on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil and salt being sure to coat the beets. Roast for about 45 minutes until tender.
When cool, use a dish towel or paper towels and rub off outer skin.
Chop and place in a food processor with tahini, juice of ½ lemon, and peeled garlic and blend until smooth and combined.
Serve and enjoy.
Tips:
Beets stain! Be sure to use a dish towel you are not sentimentally attached to. You could also use plastic grocery bags to cover your hands to protect from staining.
Get creative! Make beet hummus along with classic hummus and layer into individual plastic or glass cups to create a pretty presentation.
