Anisette Italian Cookies

  • 1lb flour (about 3 1/2 cups)

  • 2 tbsp baking powder

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • Pinch of salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup oil

  • 1/2 cup anisette liquor

  • 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp milk

Icing

  • powdered sugar

  • Sprinkles

  • Water

  • Anisette liquor or extract

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Mix all dry ingredients together.

  3. Add all wet ingredients together.

  4. Mix thoroughly.

  5. Using a tsp, scoop out each cookie and place on a lined baking sheet. *parchment paper works best.

  6. Bake in oven for 10-15 mins until golden brown on bottom.

  7. In a separate bowl, start by adding 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar.

  8. Add 1/4 tsp to 1/2 tsp of liquor and add 2 tbsp water. Add more sugar if need be.

  9. Check your consistency. The icing should be thick but not too thick to spread on top cookie.

  10. Once cookies are cooled (for at least 30 mins), top each cookie with icing and sprinkles. Let icing dry before stacking cookies.

Notes/Quick Tips:

  • If you want to be festive, you can add Christmas sprinkles or you could do the multicolor sprinkles. If you have neither, use whatever sprinkles you have.

  • Enjoy with tea and coffee.

  • Depending on your taste, you can add more anisette liquor to the icing than water.
