Grandma's Sauce


  • 1/2 cup olive oil

  • 1 large onion, diced

  • 7 cloves of garlic, diced

  • 1 12oz can of tomato paste

  • 4 28oz can of whole peeled plum tomatoes

  • 1/4 cup basil

  • 1/4 cup oregano

  • 1/4 cup parsley

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  1. Heat oil in a large stock pot.

  2. Add onions and cook for 5 mins until translucent.

  3. While onions are cooking, blend the whole tomatoes in 2 batches.

  4. Add garlic to the pot and cook for 2 mins.

  5. Add tomato paste and seasonings and mix. Cook for a minute or two and stir.

  6. Add blended tomatoes to pot and stir.

  7. Simmer for at least an hour.


Notes/Quick Tips:

  • This is a big pot of sauce, if you want to make less just half the recipe.

  • If you don’t have whole peeled tomato cans, you can use diced or stewed. You could even use tomato sauce.
